Travel/Tourism Advertising is all about transporting people to new worlds, sparking joy in audiences and playing to people’s emotions. Our 2022 campaign for Tourism Northern Ireland (TNI) that stimulated bookings in Northern Ireland and Derry did exactly that. Stimulating engagement from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland audiences following covid-19 was tough the world over. People were nervous and struggling to keep up with changing vaccination and travel restrictions; but that opened an enormous opportunity for TNI to capitalise on – the era of the staycation. And what better area to promote that Derry/Londonderry with Season 3 of the popular tv show Derry Girls kicking off. With a short 6week burst campaign while the show aired, we had to be aggressive and use video activity across YouTube and Facebook/Instagram to maximise reach and engage active audiences. Featuring in videos the locations Derry Girls had been filmed in, upweighting budget for times when the show aired, and using the burst to capture valuable data for future campaigns are only some of the strategic enhancements made.
